Covered California to Host Webinar on ACA State Innovation Waiver

Covered California will host a stakeholder webinar Jan. 26 from 3 to 4 p.m. (PT) to discuss the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) Section 1332 State Innovation Waiver process. Registration is available online. Section 1332 of the ACA permits a state to apply for a state innovation waiver to pursue innovative strategies for providing their residents with access to high-quality, affordable health insurance while retaining the basic protections of the ACA. The renewable waivers, which will be available beginning Jan. 1, 2017 and are approved for five-year periods, allow states to implement innovative ways to provide access to quality health care that: 1) is at least as comprehensive and affordable as would be provided absent the waiver, 2) covers a comparable number of residents of the state as would be provided absent a waiver, and 3) does not increase the federal deficit. Covered California will partner with the California Department of Health Care Services to engage stakeholders and the public about possible Section 1332 proposals. More information on state innovation waivers can be found on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website
