Covered California to Host Pediatric Dental Model Contract Webinar

Covered California will host a Pediatric Dental Model Contract webinar July 23 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. (PT). The webinar will cover changes Covered California has made to the Pediatric Dental Stand-Alone model contract after considering public comments. To register, visit

Stand-alone plans will be among the products offered by the pediatric dental health plans selected last month by Covered California. All of the products can be bundled with health insurance for a single premium. The plans feature standard copayments, deductibles and coinsurance requirements. Unlike Covered California’s health insurance plans, dental plans are not designated by metal levels, but come in two actuarial value options: 85 percent, which features higher premiums but lower average out-of-pocket costs, and a 70 percent value plan, with lower premiums and higher average out-of-pocket costs.

Three product types will be available but the specific choices will depend on where a child lives. They include dental health maintenance organizations, dental preferred provider organizations and dental exclusive provider organizations.

The six companies Covered California has selected to provide pediatric dental health plans for children up to age 19 are Anthem Dental, Blue Shield of California, Delta Dental of California, Health Net Dental, LIBERTY Dental Plan and Premier Access Dental.
