Continuity Planning Toolkit to Be Released at Disaster Planning Conference

Working with continuity planning experts, CHA is developing a Continuity Planning Toolkit for California hospitals. The materials will be released Oct. 15 at CHA’s Disaster Planning for California Hospitals conference in Sacramento.

“As emergency managers, we must not only respond to an immediate event, but we must be able to continue providing services to our community in the long-term aftermath. Health care continuity planning is how we get there,” stated Cheri Hummel, CHA’s vice president for disaster planning. “I encourage all hospitals to register for the conference and learn about these new resources designed to help further develop continuity plans.”

The conference will focus on an integrated approach to emergency management and business continuity that looks at every aspect of the overall organization and what it takes to carry out essential services through all levels of potential emergencies. Several sessions will be offered on lessons learned from real incidents that have stretched a hospital’s ability to function due to large scale water incursion, sewage leaks, power outages and other incidents.

More than 500 people have registered to attend this year’s conference, the largest gathering of hospital emergency managers and their disaster teams. The complete agenda along with registration and hotel information is available at The deadline for discounted rates is Monday, Sept. 24.
