Consent Manual Updated for 2011
Consent law seminar attendees receive free manual

CHA’s Consent Manual has been updated by Lois Richardson, Esq., CHA vice president, legal publications and education, to reflect all changes in state and federal consent law through January 2011. As a membership service, CHA will distribute one complimentary copy to each member hospital and system CEO.

Each manual includes a memorandum of notable changes detailing important revisions for 2011, such as new visitation rights of patients, expanded legal authority of minors to consent to outpatient mental health treatment, advance directives of military and dependents, a change to the informed consent form requirement for specified clinical trials, and much more. The model Conditions of Admission and many other CHA forms also have been updated.

The nearly 1,000-page Consent Manual is the most comprehensive and acclaimed resource available to hospitals on patient consent for medical treatment and related health care law. The manual includes legal citations, an index of key terms, and a CD containing sample forms, posters and appendixes. Many of the forms and posters are available free at

CHA also is offering a series of six Consent Law Seminars throughout California: May 5 in San Ramon, May 24 in Ontario, May 25 in San Diego, June 1 in Sacramento, June 7 in Glendale and June 8 in Costa Mesa. Complete program and registration information is at
