Congress Suspends Debt Ceiling until Mid-May

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted to suspend the nation’s debt ceiling until May 19. The bill, HR 325, would also withhold lawmakers’ salaries if their respective chambers fail to pass a budget by April 15. The U.S. House passed the legislation last week, which now goes to President Obama for his expected signature. While the debate over the debt ceiling is postponed, hospitals remain vulnerable to payment cuts as the March 1 deadline approaches to address the automatic cuts known as “sequestration.”
