Community Hospital Survey on Prescription Drug Prices Extended to May 20

The American Hospital Association (AHA) and Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) have distributed a survey to all community hospitals to help evaluate the impact that prescription drug prices have on inpatient hospitals. Many hospitals have expressed concern about increasing drug prices — including unexpected price increases for older drugs — because the inpatient MS-DRG payment system and other payment models include drugs as part of an already-established hospital payment. The deadline to complete the survey has been extended to May 20.

The survey results will be used by AHA and FAH to support future advocacy on the issue of prescription drug prices. CEOs at community hospitals should have received a personalized link and login information to complete the survey earlier this week. CHA supports this effort and encourages all hospitals to respond. Questions about the survey should be directed to Michael Ward, AHA senior associate director, policy at or (202) 626-2294.
