CMS Will Not Pursue Changes to Medicare Part D Rules

On Monday, the Obama administration and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced they will not proceed with plans to alter the Medicare Part D drug coverage rules. The announcement means six classes of prescription drugs will continue to be subject to strict rules requiring that nearly all drugs in the classes be covered under Medicare. If the change had gone forward, only three classes of drugs would have been subject to those rules. CHA submitted a comment letter opposing the proposed changes because of the effect they would have had on care provided to behavioral health patients and resulting increased demands for emergency department services.
