CMS to Survey Hospitals on Impact of Quality Measurement

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced its sponsorship of a National Provider Survey to understand how hospitals are responding to CMS quality measures and the challenges related to improving performance. The survey will be used to inform the 2018 Impact Assessment of CMS Quality and Efficiency Measures, required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

CMS is seeking hospitals’ perspective of the barriers providers face in implementing measures, potential unintended consequences associated with measurement and changes in performance over time. The survey will be conducted primarily online among a random sample of hospitals; a subset of these hospitals will also be asked to participate in a semi-structured interview. More information on the quality impact reports required by the ACA is available on the CMS website
