CMS Notifies Hospitals About Important Quality Reporting Preview Periods, Deadlines
CHA encourages members to preview Hospital Compare reports by May 2

CHA would like to draw attention to a number of recent provider notifications from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) about quality reporting programs:

  • CMS has notified providers that the July 2015 Hospital Compare reports are available for preview beginning today through May 2. Preview reports are available for inpatient quality reporting (IQR), outpatient quality reporting (OQR) and inpatient psychiatric facility quality reporting (IPFQR). CHA encourages hospitals to preview their reports before they are published on the CMS website for Medicare beneficiaries and the general public. Hospitals can preview their reports on QualityNet. Hospitals that are eligible to suppress data must submit the “Request for Withholding Data from Public Reporting Form” by May 2.
  • CMS reminds hospitals that the submission deadline for OQR Q4 clinical data is May 1 at 11:59 p.m. (PT). Failure to complete the submission of data by the deadline could result in a two percentage point reduction to a hospital’s calendar year 2016 outpatient prospective payment system annual payment update. CMS recommends hospitals verify that all data has been submitted and accepted by following the steps provided in the attached Q4 2014 hospital OQR checklist.
  • CMS has notified hospitals that hospital-specific reports (HSR) for the fiscal year 2015 IQR program claims-based measures are available for preview on QualityNet from April 3 to May 2. The HSRs will contain discharge-level data, hospital-specific results, and state and national results for the IQR claims-based measures. HSRs will be accompanied by a document describing the IQR program and details of the HSR.
  • CMS has notified hospitals that version 5.0 of the Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures is now posted to QualityNet for the IQR program. The manual applies to measures for implementation with acute inpatient discharges from Oct. 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. Updates have been made based on the inpatient prospective payment system final rule for calendar year 2015 and ongoing alignment discussions between CMS and The Joint Commission.
