CMS Extends RAC Contracts Through June 1

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced it will extend through June 1 the current recovery audit contractor (RAC) contracts, which were scheduled to expire in February. The extension allows a transition period for implementing new RAC contracts, as well as an opportunity for the current RACs to send additional documentation requests to hospitals through Feb. 21. Any requests for additional documentation sent after Feb. 21 must come from newly contracted RACs and will be governed by the terms of the new contracts.

CHA reminds all hospitals to submit data to the American Hospital Association’s latest quarterly RACTrac survey, available through Jan. 17. The web-based survey helps AHA measure the impact of Medicare RACs and helps CHA develop advocacy strategies for improving the program. To register for the survey or for technical assistance, contact RACTrac support at (888) 722-8712 or ractracsupport@providercs.com. For more on the survey, including the latest results, visit www.aha.org/ractrac.
