CMS Delays Release of Hospital Star Ratings Until July
July 2016 Hospital Compare preview period also delayed by two weeks

In response to stakeholder concerns, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced it will delay the release of Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings, originally scheduled for April 21, until at least July. In addition, CMS will delay the preview period for July 2016 Hospital Compare data by two weeks, until May 6. CMS will also delay a regularly scheduled update of new data for inpatient psychiatric and ambulatory surgery measures until May 4.

During the 30-day Hospital Compare preview period that begins May 6, hospitals will be able to review their data prior to its public release in July. CMS will also host a National Provider Call on May 12 to answer stakeholder questions about the Star Ratings methodology. CHA will provide members with more information on how to register for the call through CHA News once it is available. Questions about the Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings can be submitted to the CMS Hospital Compare Star Ratings inbox at cmsstarratings@lantanagroup.com.
