CMS Delays Enforcing HIPAA Transaction Operating Rules

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Office of E-Health Standards and Services (OESS) has announced it will delay enforcing two operating rules for HIPAA transaction standards as required by the Affordable Care Act. The operating rules for health plan eligibility and health care claim status took effect Jan. 1 for health plans, health care clearinghouses and certain health care providers, but enforcement will be delayed until March 31. While enforcement action will not be taken before April, OESS will accept complaints associated with compliance.
