The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has announced it intends to delay implementation of the radiation oncology model until July 1, 2021, via future rulemaking.

The model was originally scheduled to begin on Jan. 1, and is mandatory for hospital outpatient departments, freestanding radiation centers, and physician group practices in certain randomly-selected ZIP codes in California. CHA recently issued an executive summary of the radiation oncology model, along with a more detailed summary, prepared by Health Policy Alternatives, for CHA members.
