CMS Conducts Dry Run of New IQR Program Measures

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently added two outcome measures to the Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program. The measures are Hospital-Level 30-Day All-Cause Risk-Standardized Readmission Rate Following Elective Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) and/or Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), and Hospital-Level Risk-Standardized Complication Rate Following Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) and/or Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). Beginning in 2013, these measures will be publicly reported as part of the IQR Program. CMS is conducting a dry run from Sept. 4 to Oct. 3 to educate hospitals about the measures and to test the submission of data to the IQR Program. For questions about the measures or interest in participating in the dry run, e-mail cmshipkneeoutcomes@yale.edu.
