Children’s Hospital GME Reauthorization Approved by Congress

The U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education Support Reauthorization Act (S. 1557). The bill, which passed the Senate in November, extends and reauthorizes appropriations through fiscal year 2018 for children’s hospitals’ graduate medical education payments at $300 million per year. The legislation also provides the Secretary of Health and Human Services the authority to include in the program a small number of freestanding children’s hospitals that have been ineligible to participate in the past for technical reasons. The bill will now be sent to President Obama for his signature.
