CHBE Seeks Comments on Outreach, Education Grant

The California Health Benefit Exchange (CHBE) recently held a stakeholder webinar to introduce the Outreach and Education Grant Program, which expects to award $40 million in grants over a two-year period. The purpose of the grant program is to promote awareness of the Affordable Care Act benefits, and to complement and build capacity for the Assisters Program – in which hospitals are eligible to participate. Grant awards will support activities that target markets with the most opportunity to enroll in affordable health insurance programs, including Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and CHBE. Generally, any organization without a conflict of interest may apply for a grant, with consideration given to organizations that are eligible to become an Assister Program entity – including hospitals. CHBE is accepting written comments through Oct. 5 from stakeholders on the grant program’s preliminary concepts. The webinar presentation is attached below. The first grant application release is expected Nov. 16; applications will be due Jan. 4, 2013.
