CHA Reminds Hospitals of Approaching IQR Deadlines and Additional Guidance

CHA would like to draw members’ attention to a number of notices recently sent by the hospital inpatient value, incentives, and quality reporting outreach and education support contractor about upcoming inpatient quality reporting (IQR) deadlines.

Perinatal Care Web-Based Measure (PC-01)

The submission deadline for clinical data and for the Perinatal Care Web-Based Measure (PC-01) is Nov. 15. All eligible IQR hospitals with an active IQR Notice of Participation are required to upload clinical data and complete the PC-01 submission, including those that do not deliver babies. Hospitals that do not deliver babies must enter a zero for the PC-01 each discharge quarter, rather than leaving the field blank.

Healthcare Personnel (HCP) Influenza Vaccination Summary Data Reporting

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expanding guidance that was previously provided to acute care hospitals reporting healthcare personnel (HCP) influenza vaccination summary data to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), fulfilling the CMS hospital IQR and outpatient quality reporting program requirements for the 2014-15 influenza season. The guidance provides specific examples of which HCPs should be included in the NHSN acute care hospital counts for reporting purposes. Additional resources specific to acute care facilities’ HCP influenza vaccination summary data reporting — such as training materials, protocols, data collection forms and FAQs — can be found at www.cdc.gov/nhsn/acute-care-hospital/hcp-vaccination/index.html.

Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) Exemption Forms

The deadline for IQR hospitals applying for HAI exemption status is Nov. 15. This deadline applies to newly exempt hospitals and those that have not renewed their HAI exception status within the past year. Hospitals may be eligible for exemptions for catheter-associated urinary tract infection and central line-associated bloodstream infection if they have no adult, pediatric or neonatal intensive care unit locations. Hospitals may be eligible for a surgical site infection exemption if they have performed a combined total of nine or fewer colon surgeries and abdominal hysterectomies in the calendar year prior to the reporting year. Hospitals with an active IQR Notice of Participation are required to complete HAI data submissions through the NHSN application found at www.cdc.gov/nhsn/login.html.
