CHA is pleased to announce its 2019 Model Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules are now available. The manual sets a framework for the working relationship of hospital medical staff, hospital administration and governing body, and assures legal protections are in place.

The 2019 models are consistent with applicable California and federal statutes, regulations, judicial decisions, and accreditation standards, as well as common or best practices in medical staff structure and activities.

Written by attorneys with Arent Fox LLP under the direction of Jackie Garman, CHA’s vice president and legal counsel, this publication reflects an approach distinct from CHA’s prior versions and from other sets of model bylaws. More than updates, the 2019 models have been reworked and restructured for ease of use.

There are two versions of each model. The annotated version includes commentary about the model’s provisions and is useful for understanding the basis, uses, and legal foundation for certain provisions. The templates version does not include the commentary and makes it easier to adopt the content or copy and paste specific provisions.

CHA members may download the models and the executive summary memo that details the changes between the current release and previous efforts at www.calhospital.org/publication/model-medical-staff-bylaws-rules. CHA will host a free member forum to discuss the 2019 models on Dec. 3 from 1 – 2:30 p.m. (PT).  Register here.
