CHA Members Advocate in Nation’s Capital Ahead of Sequestration Deadline

As part of a hospital advocacy day hosted by CHA and the American Hospital Association, hospital leaders from throughout the state traveled to Washington, D.C., today to meet with more than half of the California congressional delegation. Congress faces a number of looming fiscal deadlines, including automatic cuts known as sequestration, scheduled to take effect this Friday.

With sequestration, Medicare would be subject to a 2 percent spending reduction, but as Congress tries to avert sequestration and avoid defense cuts, both Medicare and Medicaid are vulnerable to additional cuts. CHA members provided the delegation with information about quality improvement efforts in California’s hospitals and delivered the message that further payment cuts could jeopardize progress and investment in this important area.
