CHA Guidebook and Webinar Offer Hospital-Based Strategies for Health Coverage under ACA
Steps hospitals can take to participate in Covered California’s Enrollment Assistance Program and use CalHEERS

As a result of the Affordable Care Act, more than 6.7 million currently uninsured Californians will qualify for coverage on Jan. 1, 2014. Of those:

  • 2.6 million will qualify for subsidies through Covered California, California’s health benefit exchange.
  • 2.7 million will not qualify for subsidies but will benefit from guaranteed health coverage under the ACA.
  • 1.4 million will be newly eligible for Medi-Cal.

To support California hospitals in their efforts to help individuals obtain health coverage, CHA will distribute guidebooks to member hospital executives in early July. CHA will also present the guidebook during two identical, complimentary webinars, July 11 and July 30 from 10 a.m. to noon.

With grant funding from the American Hospital Association and support from Kaufman Hall, CHA interviewed hospitals throughout the state to identify successful strategies for hospital-based outreach and enrollment. These strategies have been compiled into the upcoming guidebook, which also includes steps hospitals can take to participate in Covered California’s Enrollment Assistance Program and use the new California Healthcare Eligibility, Enrollment and Retention System, a portal for screening and enrolling Californians in health coverage programs.

All webinar registrants will receive a copy of the guidebook in advance of the webinars. For more information and to register for one of the webinars, visit www.calhospital.org/insurance-under-aca-webinar.
