CHA Comments on Veterans Community Care Program Proposed Rule

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

CHA has submitted comments to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on its proposed rule implementing the Veterans Community Care Program, which will replace the Veterans Choice Program as required by the MISSON Act of 2018.

CHA is pleased that the MISSION Act includes provisions to improve existing programs by simplifying administrative processes and outlining prompt payment policies for non-VA providers. However, CHA raises concerns that the proposed rule does not implement the prompt payment provisions required by the MISSION Act and provides little information about additional administrative and operational requirements that would ensure the program operates the way Congress intended. CHA’s letter provides the VA with a number of considerations for improvement informed by CHA member experiences providing care to veterans in both contracted and non-contracted arrangements.
