CHA Comments on Proposed Changes to Cost Report Form

For CFOs, finance & reimbursement staff

Today, CHA submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on its proposed changes to the CMS 2552-10 Hospital and Health Care Complex Cost Report, which is used by the agency to determine a hospital’s reasonable cost in furnishing medical services to Medicare beneficiaries and calculate the hospital reimbursement.

In the letter, CHA strongly supports efforts to further standardize data collected via patient logs and improve the accuracy of data reported to CMS. However, CHA raises concerns that many of the proposed changes may unnecessarily increase administrative burden while creating additional ambiguity related to how certain data elements should be submitted to CMS as part of a cost report filing.

CHA thanks members for their input, which helped inform the comments submitted to CMS.
