CHA Alert: Urge State Senators to Oppose New Bureaucracy Over Hospital Transactions

For CEOs, government relations executives

CHA has issued an alert to member hospitals and health systems about Senate Bill 977 (Monning, D-Carmel), asking them to contact their state senator and urge opposition by June 16. The bill would require hospital systems to get the California attorney general’s approval before entering into an affiliation, agreement, partnership, joint venture, or other arrangement with another hospital/system, clinic, ambulatory surgery center, treatment center, laboratory, or physician office.

CHA has developed a template letter that can be emailed to Dawn Vicari, who will then forward them on to senators and their staff. The bill will be heard by the Senate Appropriations Committee in a suspense file hearing June 18.

Questions about the alert can be directed to Alex Hawthorne, CHA legislative advocate.
