Central Valley Program Added to Annual Consent Law Seminar
Attendees receive free 2014 Consent Manual

Due to member request, CHA is planning to hold an additional Consent Law seminar on May 13 in Fresno. Six other dates have been set for this popular annual event: April 23 in Costa Mesa, April 24 in San Diego, April 30 in Ontario, May 1 in Glendale, May 20 in Sacramento and concluding May 22 in Oakland.

This year’s seminar will cover the guiding principles for withdrawal of care and end-of-life issues; new administrative penalties for licensing violations; observation and the two-midnight rule; missing patients; and mental health and substance abuse patients in the emergency department. The popular critical thinking session is back this year and will feature more out-of-the-ordinary consent situations, such as dealing with partially competent patients, conflicts between parents and minors, and working with child protective services. Additional sessions on access and production of patient records and new laws are also planned.

Veteran Consent Law faculty includes Susan Penney, J.D., director of risk management for the University of California San Francisco clinical enterprises, and Suzanne van Hall, private practice attorney of van Hall Law Office. Joining the program this year is Jacquelyn Garman, J.D., an attorney in private practice and former legal counsel for Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland.

Free Consent Manual
All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the updated 2014 Consent Manual, the most comprehensive and acclaimed resource available to hospitals on patient consent for medical treatment and related health care law.
