CDPH Releases AFL on Medical Assistants in Hospital Outpatient Clinics

The California Department of Public Health has issued an All Facility Letter (AFL) informing general acute care hospitals that medical assistants may work in outpatient clinics as long as they only provide services and tasks as allowed in the California Business and Professions Code and in Title 16 of the California Code of Regulations. In addition, they must be supervised by a licensed physician or podiatrist; or by a physician assistant, nurse practitioner or nurse midwife, under the physician’s or podiatrist’s written instructions. For more information, see attached AFL 12-47.
