CDPH Publishes Expectations for Staff Conduct

In an effort to respond to concerns expressed by hospital personnel, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has published its expectations for conduct by its surveyors and other professional staff. In the document, attached, the department emphasizes the importance of demonstrating mutual respect and cooperation among staff, consumers and providers. CDPH notes that its staff will be trained and knowledgeable in the department’s principles related to conducting surveys and investigations, and will conduct these surveys in an unbiased and nondiscriminatory manner in accordance with Licensing & Certification policies and procedures. CDPH also outlines a method — previously reported in CHA News — to escalate a problem through the CDPH chain of command.
