California hospitals reported 2,428 fewer health care-associated infections in 2018 than in 2017, according to a newly released report from the California Department of Public Health.

The report shows that, for the second year in a row, the largest reductions in healthcare associated infections were in Clostridium difficile infections, which have declined by 41% since 2015. Statewide, the incidence of all infection types continues to be lower than national baselines.
