CDPH Guidance Emphasizes CDC Ebola Recommendations

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued the attached All Facilities Letter (AFL) to acute psychiatric hospitals and general acute care hospitals, sharing recent recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for Ebola preparedness and recourse. The guidance includes the CDC’s checklists for Patients Being Evaluated for EVD and EVD Algorithm for Evaluation of the Returned Traveler, and the Detailed Hospital Checklist for Ebola Preparedness. The AFL also provides information on reporting suspected Ebola patients to CDPH and using the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange, as well as a copy of CDPH’s Ebola scenario and preparedness drill for hospitals. CDPH states that it “joins CMS in strongly urging all California hospitals to adopt the CDC screening procedures and complete the CDC preparedness checklists, as well as use the CDPH Ebola drill in their emergency and outpatient departments.”
