CDPH Details New Requirement for Absentee Notification Plans

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued the attached All Facilities Letter, providing notice of the enactment of AB 620 (Chapter 674, Statutes of 2013). Effective Jan. 1, certain facilities must develop and comply with an “absentee notification plan” as part of the written plans and procedures that arise when a patient, resident or participant is missing from the facility. Facilities required to comply with the new law include skilled-nursing; intermediate care; intermediate care/developmentally disabled; intermediate care /developmentally disabled—habilitative; intermediate care/developmentally disabled—nursing; intermediate care/developmentally disabled—continuous nursing; congregate living health; adult day health care centers; and state hospitals.
