CDPH Announces New Infection Prevention Staff
Infection preventionists now provide consultation on HAI prevention, surveillance and reporting

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has received funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, allowing for an opportunity to accelerate healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention efforts.

Nine experienced infection preventionists (IPs) are now regionally located throughout the state to provide onsite and/or phone consultation to California’s acute-care hospitals for activities related to HAI prevention, surveillance and reporting.

Field IPs have begun assisting hospital personnel with surveillance methods and technical details relating to the National Healthcare Safety Network, the system through which hospitals are required to submit HAI data to CDPH.

The CDPH field IPs are working in collaboration with CHA and the Regional Association patient-safety collaboratives to support these efforts. For more information, see a June 22 CHA/CDPH joint memorandum at
