On Feb. 10, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its quarantine guidance for vaccinated individuals. The new guidance suggests that persons with an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 are not required to quarantine if they meet all of the following criteria:
- Are fully vaccinated (i.e., greater than or equal to two weeks following receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, or greater than or equal to two weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine)
- Are within three months following receipt of the last dose in the series
- Have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID-19 exposure
As it relates to health care workers, the new guidance states, ”These criteria could also be applied when considering work restrictions for fully vaccinated health care personnel with higher-risk exposures, as a strategy to alleviate staffing shortages. Of note, exposed health care personnel would not be required to quarantine outside of work.”
CHA is working with the California Department of Public Health to determine its position on this guidance.
