CAPH Founder Carol Emmott Dies

Carol Emmott, president/CEO of the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, died this week. She had a distinguished health care career and was a long-time champion of improving access to health care for all Californians. On behalf of the entire membership and staff, CHA expresses its appreciation for her contributions and condolences to her family.

“Carol Emmott was a great leader, health care executive and friend,” said CHA President/CEO C. Duane Dauner. “She was a major influence in health care for four decades. We will miss her wisdom, grace and elegance.”

Emmott’s demonstrated commitment and leadership throughout her career included serving as chief deputy director of the California Department of Health Care Services. She most recently led the health services practice for Russell Reynolds Associates in San Francisco, specializing in executive officer and board director assignments for academic, nonprofit and for-profit hospitals and health systems. Her early career was focused on senior-level policy positions at the Philip R. Lee Institute of Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco.

A memorial service is planned for March 27.
