California’s HCAHPS Scores Improve by 11 Percent

When public reporting of Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores began in 2009, California hospitals’ performance ranked in the middle of the fourth (lowest) quartile nationally, with an average of 62 percent of survey respondents selecting “top box” (most positive) responses  for 11 patient experience measures. According to the most recent HCAHPS scores, California has registered an impressive 11.3 percent improvement since 2009, placing the state among the top improving states in the country. For more information, visit www.hqinstitute.org/photo-gallery/californias-hcahps-performance.
