California Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez Addresses CHA Delegation
CHA members lead by example at Health Policy Legislative Day

More than 200 hospital executives gathered March 13 to hear details of CHA’s key legislative priorities and meet with their lawmakers to discuss health care policy as part of Health Policy Legislative Day. Before convening at the State Capitol for individual meetings in legislators’ offices, CHA members heard reflections on the direction of health care in California from Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles).

“I vividly understand the challenges in providing access to health care for all,” Pérez said. “We need to work closely to ensure that we arrive at the best outcome for the people of California.”

Pérez focused his comments on the importance of the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) and increasing access to health care, combined with the importance of the role hospitals will play in helping California lead the country in implementing the ACA.

To help convey the stories of how certain high-priority issues will affect patients and communities this year, CHA has created a powerful video as part of a public advocacy campaign. Participants at the March 13 event saw the premiere of the video, urging support of AB 900 and describing the devastating impact on hospital-based skilled-nursing facilities if pending cuts aren’t reversed.
