AHA Releases Toolkit on Opioid Epidemic
HQI conference to feature panel on addiction

The American Hospital Association has released a toolkit to provide guidance and resources to hospitals and health systems on how to work with patients, clinicians and communities to stem the opioid epidemic. The toolkit reviews the multifaceted role of hospitals and health systems in fighting the epidemic; reiterates the key activities that every hospital should undertake; and offers sources of expertise, ideas and resources to assist hospitals in fulfilling their roles. Developed in consult with clinical experts, pain management professionals and other stakeholders, the materials address clinician education, community collaboration and treatment options for opioid use disorders.

Opioid-related deaths in California remain high, with over 4,650 in 2015; opioid-related emergency department admissions continue to increase.
