Physician describes need for CHA top-priority bill

One of CHA’s top legislative priorities is AB 1300 (Ridley-Thomas, D-Los Angeles), sponsored by CHA and the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (California ACEP). The measure, three years in the making, is an important first step to reforming California’s mental health delivery system and easing crowding in hospital emergency departments. CHA is working closely with California ACEP, Assemblymember Ridley-Thomas and other key stakeholders to highlight this critical policy for a target legislative audience.

CHA and California ACEP arranged for Aimee Moulin, MD, an emergency room physician with the UC Davis Medical Center, to participate in a Sacramento radio interview on May 20.  During her appearance, Dr. Moulin described the constant bottleneck in emergency rooms caused, in part, by outdated laws that were drafted nearly 60 years ago. She noted that AB 1300 is critical for developing a more comprehensive solution by easing congestion in hospital emergency departments and helping to better ensure that patients get the care they need.
