A $750 million funding opportunity available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) could help some hospitals offset the cost of meeting seismic compliance requirements for certain acute care buildings.
The funding, administered through the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) HMGP Unit, provides opportunities for assistance with seismic safety projects for both structural and non-structural retrofitting of existing facilities, including certain hazard mitigation activities. While there is no funding cap for individual projects, completion must take place within a 36-month performance period. The funding will only apply to future projects and cannot be used for current or completed projects.
Applicants should review the Notice of Interest Instructions for a comprehensive listing of eligibility requirements. Interested providers may apply through the online application. Cal OES will review each submission to determine if the proposed activity is eligible under FEMA’s hazard mitigation activity guidance. Eligible submissions will receive a request to submit a full HMGP application.
