CHA ALERT: SB 1246 Request for Veto
Please Take Action Today

CHA is issuing an Advocacy Alert today asking hospital leaders to fax a letter immediately to Gov.Brown requesting his veto of SB 1246 (Hernandez).SB 1246 would impose additional rigorous penalties and regulatory oversight for staffing ratio and patient classification system (PCS) noncompliance, and hospital licensing violations.Specifically, the bill would mandate a review of nurse-staffing ratios and hospital PCS at every periodic CDPH facility inspection; impose fines and penalties for licensing violations that do not constitute an immediate jeopardy to patients; and require that direct care-nurses appointed to a hospital PCS committee be selected by the collective bargaining agent if the hospital is represented. For more information, see attached CHA Advocacy Alert and sample veto letter.
