California's New Charity Care and Discount Payment Law

The two-hour web seminar addresses the new requirements under AB 774; details the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development’s requirements and interpretations; presents implementation issues and options; and includes time for audience questions.

Adverse Events-New Penalties and Reporting Requirements

The two-hour web seminar addressed three new state laws that mandate new reporting requirements and allow the California Department of Health Services (CDHS) to impose penalties on hospitals that receive a notice of deficiency. The seminar detailed the requirements SB 1312 (effective Jan. 1, 2007), SB 1301 (effective July 1, 2007) and SB 739 (effective July 1, 2007) and offered practical considerations for implementation.

Faculty for the program included Sarah Benator, senior counsel with Foley & Lardner in Los Angeles, who addressed SB 1312 and SB 1301; Enid Eck, regional director, infection prevention and control for Kaiser Permanente, who addressed SB 739. Eck was a lead member of the Healthcare-Associated Infection Advisory Working Group and co-author of the working group’s report. Dorel Harms, CHA’s senior vice president for professional services, moderated the seminar.
