What Is CHPAC?
CHA’s Legislative Advocacy Program
CHA's legislative advocacy program has three components:
- Professional lobbyists.
- An extensive statewide grassroots advocacy network of concerned individuals.
- The California Hospital Association Political Action Committee (CHPAC), which provides campaign financing to officeholders and candidates who are committed to better health care for all Californians. The program relies on effective communication and coordination among CHA, the Regional Associations and hospital representatives.
The Role of CHPAC
CHPAC exists to elect, educate and build rapport with elected leaders and officials who understand the important role hospitals play in our state. CHPAC solicits contributions from concerned individuals and companies across the state, and distributes those funds to officeholders and candidates for federal, state and local offices.
Who Decides How Funds Are Spent?
The CHPAC Board of Directors governs the activities and funds of CHPAC. This board, which consists of health care leaders from across the state, determines which candidates will receive funds based on that individual’s qualifications, knowledge, sensitivity and responsiveness to health care issues and CHA positions.
Why Give to CHPAC?
Supporting CHPAC helps ensure hospitals and health systems have a strong voice when decisions are made that impact the delivery of health care. CHPAC/CHPAC-FED works to ensure state and federal elected officials making these important decisions understand the fundamental roles hospitals and health systems play in the future of health care.
Without financial assistance from supporters, few political candidates can afford the cost of a campaign, which can average more than $200,000 for a seat in California's Legislature.
Your contribution sends a message to policymakers that California's health care community is united, and provides an opportunity to positively impact the election of candidates who recognize and support health care's important role in society.
