On Jan. 1, 2014, millions of Californians will have access to
health care coverage. CHA’s annual Hospital Finance &
Reimbursement Seminar will delve into health care reform’s major
component — coverage for the uninsured — and explain its impact
on hospitals. A session will explain the details of the
California Health Benefit Exchange, including anticipated
structure, coverage levels, contracting strategies with qualified
health plans and more. Other program highlights will include
sessions on care coordination for dual eligibles and how to model
the transition from volume to value-based reimbursement. Seminars
will begin June 5 in Sacramento, followed by June 20 in Glendale
and June 21 in Irvine. For a full agenda or to register, go to
www.calhospital.org/hospital-finance.
This year’s annual Consent Law Seminar delves into consent law
for outpatient and telemedicine settings, and how to apply
critical thinking skills to out-of-the-ordinary consent
situations. Other topics include complex reporting, disclosure
processes, patients’ rights and privacy updates. A review of new
laws also is included. All attendees will receive a complimentary
copy of the updated 2012 Consent Manual. Attendees to
the first three programs have given the seminar high marks for
content. “I have attended in years past and find this seminar to
be one of the best; I use the Consent Manual more than
most other references….” commented one attendee. For more
information or to register, go to www.calhospital.org/consent-law.
Privacy decision making is particularly problematic for hospital
staff. Numerous federal and state laws must be considered before
deciding on the proper course of action. Knowing the right
questions to ask is also essential, because the facts will lead
staff to the correct law to follow. CHA will hold a web seminar
May 16 from 10 a.m. to noon (PT) to explain the many laws
impacting privacy of health information and which laws to follow
depending on the circumstances. Participants will learn about
common mistakes that hospitals make and how to avoid them.
Compliance tips will be offered with practical takeaways and
case-scenario challenges. For more information and to register,
