Overview

Health Care Reform Law

Health Care Reform consists of two separate but related laws. This section summarizes various key provisions and provides the full text of the legislation.

The first law, Public Law (P.L.) 111-148, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, includes the majority of the provisions known as “health care reform," and was previously known as H.R. 3590, or the Senate Bill. The second law, P.L. 111-152, the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, amends P.L. 111-148. Together, these two laws are known as federal health care reform.
