Patients with mental health and substance-use disorders are commonly seen in general hospitals. The behavioral health disorder may be a patient’s primary diagnosis, or it may be a co-morbid condition accompanying a physical health disorder, such as diabetes, cancer or coronary artery disease.

Psychiatric Inpatient Bed Data

Over the past decade or so, California's population has increased by five million, but in the same time period, the number of inpatient psychiatric beds in the state has dropped by one-third.  Using data from OSHPD and the CBH member survey, CHA has put together a document to illustrate the bed-loss crisis in the state.
