2013 California Hospital Compliance Manual
Includes a new Hospital Signage Requirements chart
Overview
The California Hospital Compliance Manual is the only publication written for hospital compliance officers that integrates California law and federal law on high-risk compliance areas. Written by Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, PC, and CHA, the 2013 edition has been updated to reflect changes through Jan. 1, 2013.
Changes to this edition include:
- A new chapter and chart on hospital required signage
- A new section about Medi-Cal’s provider-preventable conditions
- Additional information about the CMS 60-day or cost report due date deadline for reporting and refunding overpayments
- Additional IRS guidance to tax-exempt hospitals regarding financial assistance policies, methods for limiting patient charges, extraordinary collections actions, and patient notification procedures under the ACA requirements for tax-exempt hospitals (proposed regulations)
- Updated information about physician supervision of therapeutic services
- Revised CMS-identified hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) categories
The manual focuses on the key topics and laws that must be addressed in an effective compliance program. The 2013 edition includes a new chapter on hospital signage that explains sign and font size, and foreign language requirements — many sample signs are provided. A model compliance plan that hospitals can adapt to fit their operations is available on the free CD, along with the Hospital Signage Requirements chart, posters and appendixes. The manual also includes legal citations and an index of key terms.
