CDC Updates Vaccine Information Statements

For CEOs, CNOs

This post has been archived and contains information that may be out of date.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released updated vaccine information statements for the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine and the recombinant zoster vaccine.

Federal law requires that health care providers give the relevant vaccine information statement to each patient who is vaccinated (or their parent/legal representative). The CDC provides the informational handouts in more than 40 different languages. A complete discussion of vaccination handouts, consent, and required documentation is available in CHA’s Consent Manual — A Reference for Consent and Related Health Care Law.

Ideally, providers should begin using the updated statements immediately; however, the CDC has stated that existing stocks may be used until depleted. To subscribe to the CDC’s email notification service about vaccine information statements, go to the CDC website and click on “Get Email Updates.”
