California Congressional Action Program
advocating for patients and your hospitals
April 10 – 13, 2011
Washington, D.C.
Overview
It is critical that hospital executives meet personally with members of Congress to protect access to hospital services. Lawmakers need to understand how their decisions on health legislation directly impacts the people that live in their communities—their family, friends and neighbors.
Key legislative and regulatory priorities at the federal
level include:
Advocating for appropriate implementation of the Affordable Care Act and safeguarding hospital financing including:
- Protecting against reductions in hospital Medicare and Medicaid payments, including Disproportionate Share, Indirect Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education payments
- Securing federal hospital funding for health information technology
- Addressing barriers in clinical integration
- Protecting coverage expansions and insurance reforms critical to improving access to care
"The debate over spending reductions and implementing health care reform is front and center this spring in D.C. This presents us with both opportunities and challenges to further shape health care policy. It is more important than ever to have a strong contingent of California hospitals in D.C. to meet with Congress." – Anne O’Rourke, Senior Vice President, Federal Relations, California Hospital Association
